Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma Lawyer

There are three main forms of mesothelioma, and the symptoms that an individual may experience for each of these will vary depending upon the particular condition. The most common form of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, affecting the lining surrounding the lungs and chest cavity. Peritoneal mesothelioma occurs infrequently and affects the lining of the abdomen. The rarest form of mesothelioma is pericardial mesothelioma, which affects the lining surrounding the heart.

Following are the potential symptoms associated with each of the three forms of mesothelioma:

  • Pleural Mesothelioma: chest pain, constant cough, shortness of breath, weight loss, pain under the rib cage, difficulty swallowing, continual hoarseness, and coughing up blood.
  • Peritoneal Mesothelioma: abdominal pain, weight loss, anemia, fever, abdominal swelling, lumps in the abdomen, and bowel obstruction.
  • Pericardial Mesothelioma: shortness of breath, palpitations, constant cough and chest pain.

Because symptoms of mesothelioma (particularly those of pleural mesothelioma) may be thought to be associated with a less serious medical condition, it is important to inform your doctor if you or a close family member has been exposure to asbestos at any time, no matter how long ago the exposure may have occurred.

Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos exposure is the only known cause of mesothelioma. This exposure may have occurred while working in construction, manufacturing or shipbuilding. Asbestos has been used in over 3,000 products throughout the world, and continues to be mined in some countries today. If you or a loved one was experiencing symptoms of mesothelioma and was diagnosed with this rare cancer, it is important that you consider consulting an attorney about your legal options.

Experienced mesothelioma lawyer Bob Goldwater can review your particular case in order to determine how to protect your interests and help you take action against the party responsible for your exposure.
